Innovative solutions for building and designing bridges can eliminate and reduce environmental impacts and delays.

As is clear to most industry professionals, time is of the essence in making development projects financially viable. At the same time, infrastructure costs at the onset of projects can put the development team in a perilous budgetary bind. Roads and bridges are often a significant part of this scenario. In the case study presented below, the developer found a similar situation and a solution that worked for his Indiana project.

The Problem

Developers Pioneer and Associates were anxious to get started on their latest project, an Indiana lakefront subdivision just south of Fort Wayne with great appeal for buyers who like to fish, boat, and relax. But first they had to find a way to get across the lake itself. A man-made body of water with a high water table, Hamilton Lake presented some challenges. The developers wanted a way to access the site as quickly as possible in order to start selling the lots priced from $225,000. Yet building a conventional bridge would be time consuming and expensive due to the resources required to block off the work area and pump water. The developers were actively seeking a better way.

The Solution
Atlantic Industries Limited’s (AIL) unique engineered products turned out to be better than the developer dreamed possible. Assigned the project on a design-build basis, AIL, along with their local partner, St. Regis Culvert, designed the structure, footing and headwall, and then supervised construction of the 42-foot span, Super•Cor Arch, with a 15’2” rise. Incorporating Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) headwalls, the bridge structure was in place in a matter of three weeks, instead of the months that would have been required if Pioneer and Associates had been forced to work with concrete cast in place abutments and a concrete girder span. Naturally they were impressed by the cost savings that flowed from AIL’s innovative solution, including the fact that they were able to get on with building and selling their beautiful vacation homes much sooner. It was another win-win success story for the developer.

Whatever your bridge problem, Atlantic Industries Limited can find a solution. With over 40 years of experience in providing engineered bridge structures, they are your on-site partner for the latest, customized engineered solutions and innovative products, especially when it comes to cutting time and saving money with out cutting corners. Super•Cor arches, with spans of over 80 feet  can be installed over natural streambeds without environmental disturbance. They are a popular choice from a green perspective and from a budgetary point of view. AIL is a global player thanks to legions of satisfied customers around the world. Exceeding expectations is their specialty. If you are in the business of building infrastructure, AIL can help you. SLDT
