Unique Organization, Unique Opportunity
A number of great specialized organizations and efforts today advocate for various disciplinary industry segments of sustainable land development, and SLDI supports most of them. Following are the unique characteristics that make SLDI a powerful organization to meet the needs of all industry stakeholders.

Holistic Perspective
SLDI possesses the unique comprehensive perspective to convene and align the various stakeholders to address the full breadth of today’s issues.

  • Enhanced Communication

More open, honest and effective exchange of information at more optimal stages of the process with the full breadth of industry stakeholders..

  • More Efficient/Effective Processes

Identify problems and opportunities upfront and avoid inefficiency, rework, and mistrust typically manifested by the traditional linear approach.

  • Greater Goal Alignment

More effective partnerships, balanced goals and systematic objectives that solve problems and create opportunities for all stakeholders.

Developer-Centric
The financial risk-taker and visionary leader has the unique opportunity to advance the whole process by driving all of the planning, design, financing, construction, regulation, management, and marketing systems.

  • Balanced Direction

The needs of people, planet and profit are interdependent. In today’s environment, you can’t achieve any one of them in isolation.

  • Integrated Problem Solving

The formulation and buy-in of a comprehensive vision, including goals and strategic objectives are keys to guiding decisions made by all project stakeholders and will motivate people to take action in a coordinated direction.

  • Greater Value Throughout

A triple-bottom-line approach ensures that all stakeholders derive maximum value throughout the process from cradle through cradle.

Cooperatively-Operated
SLDI is organized as a cooperative dedicated to promoting and enabling land development worldwide that balances the needs of people, planet and profit – for today and future generations.

  • Member Profit-Sharing

Through the achievement of professional certification, members receive profit dividends, which can be applied toward SLDI member dues, other services or redeemed for cash.

  • Leveraged Experience

SLDI enables members to capitalize on the collective capability and genius of the diverse group of professionals throughout the industry.

  • Collaborative Technologies
Through broad cooperation, deeper information access and new technologies spawn new opportunities and business models that enable the delivery of previously unachievable value.

Comments from the Austin Leadership Conference

"Fantastic and beneficial conference. See you in North Carolina!"
Jason R. Ward, Managing Partner, Ward Development Group

“Your conference was excellent and if I implement a fraction of what I learned I will have paid for it many times over. Thank you for assembling such a rewarding group of visionaries for our benefit.”
Kurtis D. Welton, Welton Enterprises, Inc.

“The conference has been very, very effective. I attend a lot of different conferences, and this has been one of the more effective ones that I’ve been to in quite a while.”
Dan Hargett, CEO, Geohay LLC

“The conference has been great. People have really enjoyed it. We had a lot of good questions at our booth and I’ve had several people that have said this has been a defining point for them and it’s been a really, really good use of their time.”

Matt Phelps, CEO and Chief Engineer, Advanced Green Building Products, LLC

“SLDI is uniquely different and has made all the participants really want to come back. It’s hard to explain, but I’ve been to, God knows how many trade shows (I’m closing in on 80 years old), and I was touched by the organizational depth that SLDI has shown to me. I was really impressed.”
Patrick O’Shea, Geohay LLC

“What I especially liked about this conference is that it dealt with issues that most conferences don’t deal with. Cutting edge kind of things and the bigger development issues that most often don’t get dealt with. I’ve been to a lot of conferences mainly on green building, and this was like taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture. There was a good mix of exibitors, sessions, awards programs, and networking opportunities.”
Gayle Borst, Founder, Stewardship Architects, Inc.

“I think your conference represents the future. I’m very impressed with the quality of the keynote speakers and the technical breakout sessions. I’ve had the opportunity to bring home things that we can use in our business and I’ve met some great people in the process. I’m already looking forward to the next conference.”
Paul Egelhoff,  Vice President of Asset Management,  The Foth Companies

“I’m very impressed with the conference. It’s very well organized, and I’m really impressed with who you brought here to exhibit. A lot of people know about it [sustainable land development], but we’re not doing things collectively. It’s going to take this conferences and the people who compose SLDI to see that it happens – that we do get people to come together and function together to make the changes that are necessary. Individually, people “get” sustainability, but collectively, they don’t do enough to make a difference. I’ve been involved in a lot of organizations over the last few years, but you still can’t get a small group of them to really function effectively together to make a change. So I’ve been very very disappointed over the years with the groups I’ve been involved in. When I talk with individuals and I go to different organizations, I see individual change and awareness, but somehow we don’t seem to be bringing it together and doing what needs to be done for change to really have the effect. So that’s been a disappointment for me. I hope SLDI can impact that kind of change.”
Connie Giffin, Owner, Mountain Classic Mortgages

“This was my first Land Development conference to attend and I really benefited from the breakout sessions – great topics. I wish I could have attended more.”
Bryan W. Richards, PE Cobb Engineering Companay
